The Post Modern Yolanda

The story that I feel that shows the biggest difference between Modernism and Post modernism is "The Rudy Elmenhurst Story." Throughout the story, Yolanda's post modern views are shown through her actions and words. By meeting Rudy and his friends, she is exposed to a much more modernistic lifestyle. The language used by Rudy and the sexual intentions on his part gives Yolanda a glimpse at a modernistic world. This creates an uncomfortable environment for Yolanda who grew up as a strict Catholic. One part in the story, where Rudy uses his trademark foul language, Yolanda claims that if she was at her house her dad would have defended her honor. This brings me to my next point of Yolanda's post modernism. Yolanda is seeking comfort in men and really takes to heart what they say to her. This is more of an old world view of how a relationship should be because she is confiding in a man for confidence and comfort. After the relationship failed, Yolanda matures and gives into a more modernistic lifestyle and views like her other classmates. This was the character in all the stories that struggled the most with the transition from post modern to modern.

This picture could describe Yolanda's struggle to fit in.
